Minimalism and a minimalist lifestyle are all about reducing clutter and making time for what matters. You cut out all the meaningless things and make room for the things you love. This also extends to digital clutter!
You might be living a minimalist life in regards to your home and material things that you own. But when was the last time that you decluttered your phone or computer?
Reducing digital clutter has many benefits such as reducing stress and anxiety. Here are some simple ways to reduce digital clutter and free up some space! Freeing up space in your material and digital life means freeing up some mental space as well!
Reducing Digital Clutter
1. Clear Out Your Inbox
I remember one that I had over 3,000 unread emails in my inbox! However, I feel like that situation is not uncommon for many people. Clearing out your inbox is a great way to start reducing digital clutter.
Take some time to go through your inbox and delete old emails. If you are receiving a lot of subscription emails from companies, unsubscribe from them so that you won’t continue getting emails from them.
Once your inbox is clear, make sure to go through it regularly to avoid ending up in the same situation again!
2. Delete Old Photos
If you have tons and ton of photos in your camera roll, make sure to go through them and delete the ones you don’t like or need anymore. If you have a lot of important photos that you want to keep, save them elsewhere so that they don’t take up space in your phone.
If you have a lot of duplicate or similar photos, choose your favorite ones and delete the rest! As a blogger and reseller, I take a lot of photos with my phone. If I don’t stay on top of it, I can accumulate tons of photos in just a week!
3. Use Digital Storage
To avoid having tons of photos and files saved on your phone, use a digital storage system such as google drive or even a flash drive or SD card. You can still keep all your files and photos you love without having them clutter your phone! Not only does this free up space, but your phone will work more efficiently.
Personally, I love using google drive. I can upload files and download them again if I ever need to. It frees up space on my phone and reduces the clutter!
4. Delete Apps You Don’t Use
Sometimes you download an app, use it once, and never open it again. Make sure you go through your phone and delete any unused apps.
Deleting apps you don’t use will free up lot’s of space and also make your phone work more efficiently.
5. Limit Social Media Use
Finally, try to limit your social media consumption. This will benefit you mental health and you will have more free time for other things! If you find it hard to unplug, consider deleting some social media apps off your phone for a while.
You can do it just for a day or two and really notice a difference! Instead of spending free time on your phone, go for a walk outside, bake something, read, or journal!
Spending too much time on social media is honestly a waste of time and can be harmful. Unplugging from time to time helps you stay grounded and reduces the mental clutter.
