With minimal ingredients, you can easily and quickly make these delicious flour tortillas right at home! What You Will Need
To make the buttery flour tortillas, you will need:
- Unbleached flour
- Unsalted butter (omit salt if using salted butter)
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Warm Water
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Large pan or cast iron skillet (comal)
- Plastic Wrap
How to Make the Flour Tortillas
- In a large bowl, start by mixing 3 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, & 1 tsp salt (omit salt if using salted butter).
- Next, melt 1 stick of butter in 1 cup of water. I usually just do it in the microwave!
- Mix butter in water until completely melted and pour over flour mix while still warm.
- Using your hands, mix together until a nice soft, round dough forms. Might be slightly sticky but still easy to work with.
- Cover tightly with with plastic wrap and let sit for 10 min.
- Divide the dough into 10-12 evenly sized balls.
- Place back in bowl and cover with plastic and let sit for 10 more min.
- Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball of dough over a floured surface into a round tortilla.
- Place rolled out tortilla on the pan or comal over medium heat. Let cook for about 30 seconds-1 min on each side.
- Serve immediately or store in a plastic zip lock once cool.
Homemade Buttery Flour Tortillas
Equipment
- 1 Rolling Pin
- 1 Mixing Bowl
Ingredients
- 3 C Unbleached All Purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 C Butter salted
- 1 C Water
Instructions
- In a medium to large mixing bowl, combine the flour and baking powder
- Melt the butter in 1 cup of warm water, mix until the butter is completely melted
- Pour the melted butter and water mixture into the flour mixture
- Mix and knead into a soft, round ball of dough (knead for about 2-3 min or until smooth ball of dough is formed).
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 10 min
- Take a ball of dough and divide evenly into 8-10 smaller balls of dough. Transfer back into the bowl, cover, and let rest for 10 more min.
- Flour a clean working surface and roll out each ball of dough into a round tortilla shape using a rolling pin
- Cook on over medium high heat on a comal or non stick pan, about 1 min per side. Enjoy!
