Nice cream is one of the first things I discovered after going vegan back in 2015. There weren’t many vegan ice cream options back then, or at least not that I remember. I realized I needed a substitute because how can someone live without ice cream?! After doing a little bit of research, I found that every vegan out there was eating this thing called “nice cream”.

What is Nice Cream?

Nice cream. or vegan ice cream, is simply a non dairy ice cream/frozen yogurt made from frozen bananas! You can add other ingredients of course, but the frozen bananas is the main ingredient that will give you that creamy ice cream consistency that you’ll want! Nice cream is such a guilt free treat because it’s basically just frozen fruit. You could add a little bit of sweetener such as agave or coconut sugar, but that’s not necessary. The bananas, especially when they are rip and spotty, will give plenty of sweetness to the ice cream!

How to Make Healthy Banana Blueberry Nice Cream

For this vegan banana ice cream, you will need:

  • 2 Frozen Bananas (make sure they are ripe and spotty prior to freezing)
  • 3/4 C Frozen Blueberries

Equipment:

  • Blender

I know many people use a Vitamix but a regular blender will also work. Just take it slow, stop to scrape down the sides from time to time, and maybe add a splash of almond milk (or any plant based milk) to help it a little! I use my good old Ninja Blender and it works just fine! Of course, something like the Vitamix would give you faster results, but a regular blender can get it done.

Make it High Protein Vegan Ice Cream

You could also easily make this nice cream high protein by adding some plant based vanilla protein powder! It would give it some nice added flavor and would be more filling. It’s also a great option for those on a vegan diet who struggle to hit their protein requirements! Simply add a scoop of protein powder along with the bananas and blueberries before blending.

Steps

banana ice cream
  1. Freeze your fruit for 2-3 hours, if not already frozen. To freeze the bananas, I recommend slicing first and putting them into a baggie or a container work too.
  2. Add the frozen blueberries and bananas into the blender, along with some protein powder if your making it a high protein ice cream.
  3. Blend on high until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency. If you don’t have a really good blender like the Vitamix, this process will take a little bit longer. Rest assured, it will still work, you just might need to stop to scrape down the sides a few times and keep blending. If it gets really stuck, try adding a tbsp of some plant based milk.
  4. Serve immediately. Add toppings, if desired. Just after a few minutes, you have creamy, healthy vegan banana blueberry nice cream!
