Your home should be your haven. It should be your happy place, as well as your husband and children’s happy place.

Your home is a place where you create fun memories, gather with family, and where you can be yourself.

For this reason, it’s so important to create a cozy, inviting home that you enjoy being in! It’s a horrible thing to hate being in your own home. Trust me, I’ve been there.

When your house is a mess, your head is a mess. I’m a true believer in that! Of course, your home doesn’t need to be perfect or even clean all the time for it to feel like a haven. I don’t have kids yet, but I’m sure many of you mothers out there would agree that keeping your house perfectly clean with kids isn’t easy. It’s not even easy with a husband!

I’m just here to share some ways you can make your home into a cozy haven that you and your family love!

Benefits of turning your home into a haven

Creating your home into a cozy haven will bring you peace and relaxation. It will make you enjoy being home and give you overall joy and satisfaction.

Why wouldn’t you want to have a joyful home? It will become a space that everyone will love to be in!

1. Declutter Your Entire Home

Okay, so I talk a lot about minimalism and decluttering here on my blog, but I can’t stress it enough! Having a clutter free home is essential to turning your home into a haven.

Now, does this mean your house always needs to be mess free? Absolutely not! Doing a deep decluttering session will simply help you get a good start so that keeping your home clean and tidy becomes easier and more attainable.

It will also allow you to get rid of things that you don’t absolutely love and enjoy!

If you have no idea where to start, check out my FREE decluttering checklist to help you declutter room by room.

2. Only Decorate With Things You Love

After you finish your decluttering session, you should only be left with things you always use and things you absolutely love and enjoy.

From now on, only buy things that you LOVE to decorate your home.

NOT because it’s on sale

NOT because it’s trendy

NOT because you kind of like it

I can’t stress this enough! Only buy and keep things in your home that you 100% love, otherwise you might not use it and it will create clutter. Not only that, but now you can to stare at something that doesn’t really bring you joy.

I know it might sound a little silly, but it’s not hard to do and it will make a significant difference in your home and how you feel when you are in it.

3. Create a Cleaning Routine

While your home doesn’t have to be perfectly clean all the time, I still think it’s important to create a cleaning routine to keep your home overall neat and tidy.

It’s important to create a schedule that works and is realistic for you, otherwise you might not stick to it.

Personally, I love doing small things daily to keep my home clean without it becoming this huge dreadful chore. If you need some inspiration on creating a cleaning routine, check out my minimalist cleaning routine.

4. Fill Your Home with Your Favorite Scents

When your home smells good, you feel good. It makes your home more inviting both to you and your guests when it smells good.

Whether you like candles or prefer diffusing essential oils, find your favorite scents with fill your home with them!

Personally, I prefer burning candles in my home because it gives it a more cozy vibe with the flame.

I love a variety of these candles from CoCo Benjamin!

5. Cook or Bake Your Favorite Meals

Another way to make your home into a cozy haven is to frequently make your favorite meals or bake your favorite desserts.

You can also make your family’s favorite meals, such as for your husband and children if you have any.

Personally, I love creating mine and my husband’s favorite meals and desserts. It fills my home with a delicious aroma and just makes it extra cozy!

You know, like when you bake chocolate chip cookies and the smell fills the air?! I don’t think it can get any cozier than that.

Some of our favorite cozy meals to have are vegan lasagna (yes, we’re vegan, but you can make any of the recipes non-vegan if you’d prefer!), vegan lentil meatloaf, and minestrone soup.

6. Open Windows For Natural Light

Having lots of natural light in your home is a great way for your space to be brighter and happier. It can lift your mood and put you in a more positive headspace.

If you’re home is very dark and gloomy, try opening up some windows and letting in as much natural light as possible during the day.

7. Create a Peaceful & Positive Atmosphere

So I’ve talked a lot now on how to create a visually peaceful and positive atmosphere, but what is most important is that you yourself are in a positive mindset.

Create a space where you, your family, and your guests feel at peace. People can sense your mood and if it’s a negative one they will feel stressed, agitated, and eager to leave.

Create a home where you are slow to anger, ready to forgive others, and where you speak gently, not harshly. This will help create a loving, warm cozy home more than anything!

8. Add Cozy Items

Finally, you can turn your home into a cozy haven by adding small cozy touches to it. What do you think of when you hear/see the word cozy?

Personally, I think of a cozy couch or bed that I just want to snuggle up in. You can add cozy items into your home such as adding some throw pillows that you love on your couch or a cozy throw blanket.

Here are some throw pillows and throw pillow covers that I love!

I hope this gives you some inspiration to create your home into a home you love being in and that brings you tons of joy!
