Minimalist Cleaning Routine & Cleaning Products

Always (or almost always) having a tidy, clean home doesn’t need to be difficult. In this post, I share my minimalist cleaning routine and my favorite cleaning tips + products to always have a clean home.

In the past, I was that person who always waited for my home to get very messy before cleaning. I would spend an entire day cleaning a weeks worth of mess!

Growing tired of the clutter and mess, I chose to get rid of a lot of things and live a minimalist lifestyle. This makes cleaning a lot easier because there is less stuff to clean and organize.

While minimalism made cleaning easier, I still wanted to take it a step further and develop a cleaning routine. A cleaning routine that I could stick to so that my home was always clean and tidy!

After narrowing it down to a few cleaning products and tools, I created my minimalist cleaning routine.

Cleaning Routine

Because we live in such a small space, my cleaning routine is something I do pretty much daily. There are only a few things that I do weekly or monthly, such as laundry and dusting.

I have a morning cleaning routine and an evening one. Both are quick and prevent things from getting dirty and messy.

Daily

Here are the things I do daily:

  • Make Bed
  • Wash Dishes & Clean Sink
  • Wipe Down Kitchen Table, Countertops & Appliances
  • Clean Bathroom Sink & Mirror
  • Vacuum

Every Other Day

  • Clean toilet

Weekly

  • Laundry
  • Floors (Mopping)
  • Dusting
  • Clean Shower

Monthly

  • Wipe Down Walls & Cabinets
  • Clean Windows

Morning Routine

Every morning, the first thing I do is make my bed. After breakfast, I clean up the kitchen a little so that it doesn’t pile up later!

For the dishes, I switched to a Bamboo Dish Brush instead of a stinky dish sponge. I love this brush so much more! It cleans better too, in my opinion. For times when things are sticky and hard to clean, I love using these Pan Scrapers. I also started using castile soap to make my own dish soap instead of store bought and it works great!

Evening Routine

The evening is when I do the rest of my cleaning. I like to put my home to bed by making it nice and tidy. There is nothing better than waking up to a clean home! It makes me feel motivated and ready for the day whereas I would feel sluggish and stressed when I don’t clean the night before.

After dinner, I do the dishes again (we don’t have a dishwasher unfortunately!) and clean the kitchen sink. For the sink, I just use baking soda and the homemade dish soap. I let the baking soda sit for a few minutes before scrubbing.

Then, I go ahead and wipe down all surfaces with the homemade cleaner and a microfiber towel. Next, I move to the bathroom to clean the sink and mirror. These tend to get dirty quickly and I like having a clean sink which is why I clean it daily. After that is done, I will vacuum. I do this every night so that nothing gets too dirty!

Those are all the things that I do daily, the rest I will do weekly or monthly. This minimalist cleaning routine works for me and really helps keep my space clean all the time. Of course, I’m not perfect and there are times where I skip days. For the most part, I stick to this schedule and my home is kept under control and ready for unexpected guests!

Thanks so much for reading, I hope this helps you get into the groove of your own cleaning routine!
