How to Build a Neutral Minimalist Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Here is your guide to a neutral minimalist Spring capsule wardrobe!

When I first began a minimalist lifestyle, I really wanted to start building a minimalist wardrobe. This was partly because I wanted to make it easier on myself to get ready each day, and partly because I loved the aesthetic of a minimalist wardrobe.

Like most people, I dove straight into decluttering my closet and got rid of the pieces I never wore. I wanted to love each piece of clothing that I owned to ensure I wore each one!

When building a minimalist wardrobe, don’t replace everything all at once. Unless you actually have the means to do so, it can be quite expensive to buy brand new sustainable pieces! I suggest that you start slowly, adding a few pieces at a time.

You can also try thrifting some pieces, you will be surprised at what you can find! Personally, my closet is a mix of thrifted clothing items and items I purchased brand new.

Below are some pieces I’ve been loving in my minimalist Spring capsule wardrobe! I’m more of a neutral gal because it makes it easier to put my outfits together in different ways. However, don’t be afraid to add color if you love brighter colors! To make things easier to find, I will list and link everything down below.

Minimalist Spring Capsule Wardrobe

This capsule wardrobe is simply for inspiration, remember to only add/purchases items that you personally love and would wear. I wouldn’t want you adding something to your closet that isn’t practical to your lifestyle and personality!

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Learn more here.

1. Lightweight Sweater

The Spring time is a time of transition. This means that you are will have some sunny, warmer days and some cooler, rainy days. Layers are key during the Spring months, so have a light weight sweater is perfect to stay warm without burning up!

I love having one or two simple, high quality sweaters and this one from Everlane is just that!

2. Dressy Sweater

Having a cute sweater that looks slightly more dressy than a plain sweater can really elevate your look when you need a dressier outfit. I love the way the flared wrist detail from this sweater from Oak + Fort. While you can still dress up a plain sweater with some jewelry, having a dressier sweater does come in handy!

3. Cardigan Sweater

Cardigan sweaters are perfect for layering during the Spring time. You can wear a bodysuit or t-shirt underneath in case the day warm up later on. I love this cream colored sweater from Everlane and I especially love the tortoise shell buttons!

4. Bodysuits or Tank Tops

Basics are so important to have when building a minimalist wardrobe, or any wardrobe for that matter! I would suggest having a couple bodysuits or tank tops, whatever you prefer. Personally, I have one black one and one white bodysuit.

5. Neutral T-Shirts

Your neutral t-shirts are for layering and wearing with multiple outfits, just like your bodysuits/tank tops. This can be a classic white t-shirt, but you can also have other neutral colors such as black, gray, and tan. I have all these colors except for gray, I love my basics and they make keeping a minimalist wardrobe so much easier!

6. Linen Button Up Shirt

If you are into button up shirts, a linen button up shirt is perfect for the transitioning weather of the Spring. Linen is a high quality fabric that will keep you cool and last for a really long time if you care for it properly.

7. Straight Leg Jeans

Now on to my favorite clothing item, a good pair of jeans! Straight leg jeans to be exact. I find that straight leg jeans are so flattering and they are totally still on trend right now. Having a solid pair of jeans is essential so that you can wear them with so many different outfits. You can easily dress jeans up or dress them down when you want to be more casual. My personal favorites are the Everlane 90s cheeky jeans, these jeans are the first jeans to ever fit me PERFECTLY! I’m short so I wear the ankle length but they also have a regular!

8. Black Trousers

Okay, so black trousers are actually one item that I personally don’t own anymore! I found that I wasn’t reaching for them as much now that I don’t work an office job. However, I though I would include them for those who do have to dress professionally for work. Or if you happen to just love black trousers! These are a great staple to have for occasions when you need to dress a little more professionally. You can also wear them casually, and it’s a great look!

9. White Jeans/Pants

White jeans are something I just recently got into. I love them in the Spring and Summer months and they go great with so many different clothing items. If you are going to have a second pair of jeans, I suggest trying out a white pair!

10. Light Trench Coat

During the Spring, it can still get cold on some days. This is where a light trench coat is a must have! A light trench coast is very fashionable & trendy, but will keep you dry and warm on those cooler rainy days.

11. Denim Jacket

I feel like if anything says Spring time, it’s a classic denim jacket! A denim jacket is great for when the days a cooler, but not cold enough for the trench coat. I also love how cool and casual a denim jacket can be!

12. Neutral Handbag

A neutral, lighter colored handbag has been my thing lately. I used to only own a black handbag, but I recently switched to a lighter colored one and I love it! I feel like neutrals and warm colors are really in this year and it goes with a minimalist wardrobe!

13. Block Heel Sandals

Next, on to the shoes. I think most women need a pair of block heeled sandals during the Spring and Summer. They are perfect to add to your minimalist wardrobe because they can be dressed up or down. They are perfectly in between casual and dressy.

14. White Sneakers

And finally, my go to pair of shoes for every day life, a white pair of sneakers! You can wear these with literally every outfit in your closet and look good!
